The Landry Covered Bridge

The Landry Covered Bridge was constructed during the second wave of colonization in the Témiscamingue region in the 1930s. It was built in 1938, although there are new findings suggesting that the actual construction date might be 1932. The bridge was designed in the “Town québécois” style, also known as the “Town élaboré” style. This design was inspired by the Town truss patented by American architect Ithiel Town (1784-1844) in 1820. Quebec engineers modified this design in the early 20th century under the Ministry of Colonization.

The Landry Covered Bridge is a single-span bridge measuring 32.43 meters long and 5.74 meters wide. Its structure consists of diagonally placed timbers forming a wide lattice, with vertical posts between the upper and lower single cords. The bridge is covered with horizontal planks painted in white and topped with a gabled roof.

This covered bridge spans the Fraser River in an agricultural area within the municipality of Latulipe-et-Gaboury. It has been designated as a cultural heritage site since 2007.
